To join Dialogue, an applicant first shows what they can do with English. This happens through the free Practice Duolingo English Test. It takes about 45 minutes.
Then the applicant fills out one application. It is a Google Form. It is free. It has 8 sections. It takes about 15 to 45 minutes to complete.
The most important part is a short piece of writing — 300 to 500 words — about the applicant's own relationship with English.
These videos will guide the applicant through each step.
This is Video 1. It is the overview.
Video 2 will explain the Duolingo practice test — what it is, how to take it, and how to save the results.
Video 3 will walk through the application itself, section by section.
The applicant may watch all 3 videos first, then apply. Or the applicant may watch each video and then complete that step before continuing.
This is "Video" 2 and 3 of 3. Video 1 was the overview of the full process.
Before filling out the application, the applicant takes a free practice English test. It is called the Practice Duolingo English Test.
It is free. It takes about 45 minutes.
Here is the address: englishtest.duolingo.com/practice
iPhone users open this address in Safari. Android, PC, and Mac users open it in Chrome.
The test covers reading, writing, listening, and speaking. The applicant will need a device with a camera and a microphone. The ones already on the device are fine.
When the test is finished, a results screen appears. The applicant does 3 things before closing that screen.
1 — take a screenshot of the results screen.
2 — write down the date, the time, and the location where the test was taken.
3 — return to the Dialogue application and continue.
The screenshot and the date, time, and location will be uploaded in Section 6 of the application.
Now, the application.
The application is a free Google Form with 8 sections.
The address is: bit.ly/dialogueapply
Section 1 is a welcome. The applicant reads it and continues.
Section 2 sends the applicant to take the Practice Duolingo English Test. This video explained that step.
Section 3 asks for basic information — name, email, country, time zone, education, and which session the applicant is applying for.
Section 4 asks about languages — all the languages the applicant knows, any English tests taken recently, and whether the applicant is connected to the University of the People.
Section 5 is the most important section. The applicant writes 300 to 500 words about their own relationship with English. Take time here. Dialogue reads every story carefully.
Section 6 is about guaranteeing the seat. Dialogue is free, but each cohort has only 12 learners. A refundable $500 deposit holds the seat. The applicant also uploads the Duolingo practice test screenshot here.
Section 7 is about scheduling the TOEML — the Test of English as My Language. It is a free live conversation on Google Meet. Not a test to pass or fail. A conversation about languages.
Section 8 is the finish. The applicant notes how they heard about Dialogue, adds any questions, confirms their information, and submits.
That is the application. 8 sections. One step at a time.
